World Teachers’ Day is held annually on October 5th to help celebrate teachers all over the world. The event was established in 1994, and it commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the status of teachers.

To celebrate this day, UNESCO runs a campaign every year to help the world gain a better understanding of teachers and the impact they have on the development of students within society. World Teachers’ Day celebrates quality teaching and inspirational teachers.

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on 5 October in most states and territories in Australia. As this date is within the school holidays, NSW celebrates on the last Friday of October. There are over 170,000 primary, secondary and early childhood teachers working in NSW. The event is an opportunity to recognise all teachers.
