As a parent, recent grandparent, teacher, school leader and principal for me being a literacy expert is someone who works with children or adults and has a deep understanding of the complexities of language and literacy acquisition and skills in fostering a love and facility of and with English. Through working in this way, the literacy expert/teacher experiences the successes and challenges faced by the learner and doesn't oversimplify the processes involved - rather seeks solutions. The literacy expert provides a context rich in literature and language activities that contribute to learning which is both engaging, meaningful. and sustained.
