It is National Reconciliation Week. The 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. The Foundation for Learning and Literacy is proud to celebrate National Reconciliation Week (NWR). Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us. The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. Find out more here.
New Committee Members
The new 2025 Executive and General Committees have recently met, and we are now a committee of over 20. The working groups of Resources, Advocacy and Partnerships, Communications and Operations have embarked on some ambitious agendas to support our 1000+ Friends and more broadly, advocate for quality learning and literacy experiences in all schools. You can see who is on our 2025 committees here.
Research articles on the FFLL 12 Touchstones
The recent Special Edition of the Journal of Qualitative Inquiry consists of 12 chapters, with each chapter expanding on one of the 12 Foundation for Learning and Literacy Touchstones. While usually not an open access journal we have negotiated open access to this special edition. We encourage all Friends to take the time to read these peer reviewed articles and again thank the talented writers who contributed to this journal.
Partner activity
Our partner group in 2025 is even bigger, with 17 like -minded organisations collaborating, meaning greater reach and greater impact. The FFLL is proud to lead and host this partnership. After three very successful years of collaborating on presentations for a literature symposium, this year we have chosen a shared advocacy focus that is the core work of our organisations: We all like a good story: imagine the possibilities. We have a bright blue umbrella logo for this new work. We have approached people who also see the possibilities stories, reading, writing, imagining and creating have opened up for them, to be our ambassadors in 2025. We are curating some of the key research that guides our focus and have developed a rationale to direct/move us forward. This new partner collaboration is coming soon. Watch out for this exciting new work and in the meantime, revisit and share the great stories from the 2022, 2023 and 2024 symposia.
As it is Reconciliation Week, we are sharing activity from First Nations partner, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). The ILF’s purpose is to invest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote communities to provide the tools and resources they request to shape the direction of their children’s literacy future.
Our newest Partner is International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) Australia. IBBY is a non-profit organisation which helps to build bridges to international understanding through children’s books. IBBY is committed to the principles of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by the United Nations in 1990. Find out more here.
