On Tuesday, September 9, Federal Education Minister Jason Clare MP, proposed the creation of a new Teaching and Learning Commission to improve coordination across education’s governing bodies.

The announcement has been broadly welcomed by industry stakeholders, though consultation, and a commitment to protect the best interests of students, teachers and school leaders must remain priorities.

Speaking at the Australian Student Equity Symposium, Minister Clare said he had written to his State and Territory colleagues, with a proposal to bring the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO), and Education Services Australia together under one roof.
