Research into the discourse surrounding ‘The Science of Reading’, SOR, was conducted by a group of researchers in the United States and reported in this article. They undertook analysis of Tik Tok videos to examine how the discourse is developed by educational stakeholders. The videos were analysed using categories like ‘professional content knowledge’; ‘direct demonstration’ and ‘resources and materials’. Examining posts on a social media platform enabled the researchers to identify the narrative which developed about SOR and the binary views which were furthered by the platform’s algorithm. This scholarly article is concise and very detailed and will support some deep reflection about both current educational policy and pedagogy.
